Our showcase piece of work this week is Anjelica’s biography writing about Judith Kerr, our author of the week. We are really enjoying reading all of her Mog the cat books.

THIS TERM'S TOPICS:

In Literacy we will be looking at the authors Dorothy Edwards, Roger Hargreaves and Valerie Thomas and linking our written work to the themes and ideas in their stories. We will be experimenting with different styles and patterns in our writing. We will be revising building up character profiles by using strong adjectives and will be improving our use of speech marks and paragraphs in our written work.

In Numeracy we will be focusing upon place value of numbers up to 1000, placing numbers on number lines, rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, looking at number patterns, solving problems and puzzles and improving our multiplication and division facts. We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties, we will be using tables and Venn diagrams to record and read information and will also be learning more about measures and metric units.

As Scientists, we will be learning about uses of everyday materials – what things are made from and where they come from, the suitability of everyday materials for various uses and the differences between man-made and natural materials.

As Geographers we will be looking at locations of Castles within the UK using map skills and thinking about what geographical factors make a good location for building a castle. We will also be looking at different types of homes in our local area and comparing the features of different homes.

As Historians we will be learning all about William the Conqueror, the Normans and Saxons and about life in castles. We will also be learning about lots of other types of homes throughout the ages and comparing them to modern homes.

As Creative Technicians we will be designing our own coats of arms, creating our own collage castles and studying the work of the artist Mondrian. We will be designing and making our own model of a home and we will also be working with felt and using sewing skills to make our own Mr Man characters.

As Musicians Form 2 will be studying pitch in our topic ‘Taking Off!’. We will be exploring low, medium and high notes in tuned instruments to create pitch journeys using simple musical notation.
