As part of our History work Form 6 were fortunate enough to tap into some first-hand memories when they visited one of our local care homes, Arden Court. The residents were all keen to share their memories of growing up either during or just after the war and the amazing changes that had occurred over the course of their lives. The children were fascinated, listening to the wonderful anecdotes and learning about the differences they would have encountered if they had experienced it themselves.
A worthwhile occasion on so many levels for all the participants, it was topped off with the children enjoying homemade cakes and sausage rolls provided by Tom, one of the residents.
A wonderful visit all round – despite the weather.
Since reporting we have had an email from Arden Court ‘Just a quick note to say yesterday was brilliant, the residents had a really great time and have been talking about it this morning .The pupils from your school were polite caring and thoughtful, an absolute credit to the school, teachers , parents and the pupils themselves. It was a pleasure to have them in the home.’
