For children aged 7-8
The core subjects are taught daily. Maths and English lessons take place in the mornings, including preparing children for the 11+ exams, developing their verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills. Each week, the children apply their skills in a piece of Creative Writing. We have high, but attainable, expectations for all our pupils, and regularly track their progress. We also tailor every piece of work set to pupils’ individual needs, so that we can encourage children to reach their full potential.
Specialist teaching is provided in Music, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing and Sports. In addition to this, pupils can choose from an array of lunchtime and after school clubs, including the option of 1:1 tuition to learn a new instrument.
During the Autumn and Spring terms children receive lacrosse coaching and fortnightly Forest school sessions. The children take part in their first residential in the Autumn term, where they are challenged in new ways. In the Spring and Summer terms, children receive swimming lessons.
In the Summer term the children will visit Tatton Hall, to enrich their History knowledge.
During our Summer term, the children take part in Branwood’s infamous Summer Showcase, demonstrating their talents in the performing arts.
Homework
Homework is set daily via the classroom page on Class Dojo. This is a 30-minute piece of work and reading is also to be completed each evening. English homework, building on their comprehension and grammar skills, is set on a Monday and Wednesday. Maths homework, consolidating children’s mechanical and arithmetic skills, is set on a Tuesday and Thursday. Their homework diary should be signed by a parent or guardian. The homework diary serves as a constant communication between parents and teachers. These are checked regularly, and any parental comments are noted and acted upon.
Spellings and Times Tables are also set each week on a Friday to encourage constant reinforcement of these essential skills.
The children also continue to have weekly Music, Spanish, IT and PE lessons delivered by specialist teachers. They also participate in Forest School sessions fortnightly.
