Branwood School Parliament

Welcome to Branwood School Parliament

The School Parliament is a group of pupils who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views. The School Parliament meets with Mrs Houseman and Mrs Garrity fortnightly to discuss their ideas. These may include behaviour, ideas for helping the environment and fundraising ideas. Members of the school parliament will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed.

Our Purpose

We are the voice of the students at Branwood. We form the link between pupils and members of Senior Management to propose new ideas to further the school. We also work as Eco-school Ambassadors and think of innovative ways to create a more sustainable school.

  • We aim to get things done to make our school better.
  • We aim to find ways to improve our school.
  • We aim to give every pupil a voice and to ensure that all decision making is fair.
  • We support our local environment and community.
  •  We support the wider environment and find ways to improve our carbon footprint.

Membership and Elections

Any pupil of Branwood Preparatory School can put themselves forward to be elected democratically. Each candidate will present a speech to their peers explaining why they think they would be the best person. Then a secret ballot is held by the pupils who write down the name of the person they decide on.

Congratulations to the 2021/22 Parliament Members:

F1: Beatrice, Bethany
F2: Lara, Alfie.
F3: Lottie, Katy
F4: Anya, Isaac
F5: Archie, Isabella
F6: Kirat, Max, Jamie

Action Plan

Branwood School’s School Parliament have had a highly successful start to the year. Last term, we raised more than £300 from the Cauliflower Christmas cards which is the most ever raised. Thanks to all the parents who supported the initiative and purchased their child’s Christmas merchandise!

School Parliament have decided this money will be spent on Buddy Benches to support wellbeing and encourage friendships with different children. The Buddy Benches help pupils care for others by including them if they feel left out.

School Parliament are also working towards their Eco-Schools Accreditation this year and we are beginning to implement many of the initiatives discussed over the last term. Each form now has an ‘Energy Monitor’ who is responsible for ensuring the output of electrical energy is minimised  by turning off any electrical equipment when it is not in use and also turning off the lights. With Climate Change being such a high-profile topic, Branwood is determined to be more mindful of its carbon footprint and do everything we can to support the eco-system. Please see the Eco-Schools Action Plan attached; the pupils have worked exceptionally hard together (led by Form 6’s Kirat, Jamie and Max) to create this and, I’m sure you will agree, it exhibits their excellent awareness of the areas we need to improve as a school community.

We look forward to seeing their progress over the year!

Our School Council members wear badges to help other pupils identify them easily. They are all approachable and are seen around the school. The School Council members feedback to their class after our meetings and use this time to speak to their peers. They can also talk to Mrs Houseman or Mrs Garrity.
