Form 1 had great fun creating rain sticks as part of their Geography unit, Around the World. These were inspired by their lesson on Australia where they read about the didgeridoo, boomerangs and Uluru, a sacred place for Australian Aboriginal people. The didgeridoo is believed to be the world’s oldest wind instrument, dating back thousands of years. The oldest records of playing the didgeridoo date back 1500 years in the form of old Northern Territory cave and rock paintings.
Historically Australian Aboriginals allegedly used rain sticks to summon rainstorms for their crops. Interestingly, after Form 1 tried to summon a rainstorm with their sticks a heavy downpour of rain did indeed follow!
